How to Fix Error: Replace Parts Drum Unit Reset the DR720 Drum Counter on a Brother MFC-8950

I purchased a third-party drum for our Brother MFC-8950DWT and after replacing it we began getting an error whenever we’d make a copy:  “Replace Parts Drum Unit.”  After returning the first third-party drum and then getting the same error on another manufacturer’s drum I found out that you can simply reset the drum counter and get rid of the error.  Here’s how.

If you currently have the “Replace Parts Drum Unit” error on screen simply tap the x at the top right corner of the window.

Step 2: Tap the Settings Menu on the touch screen.

It is at the bottom right corner.  If you have the screen locked then you’ll see a padlock over the menu button.  You’ll need to unlock the screen first.

  • Trying to reset drum counter on MFC-8950. After taping on “machine into” the screen looks just like the one on this article except the Reset Menu button is missing, just blank where the button is supposed to be. Any suggestions?

    • Thank you for the question Ron. I no longer have access to that model of printer but I’ll give it a shot. Try power cycling the printer and trying again. You could take out the toner cartridge and re-insert it. Make sure the menu where you are looking for the reset button says:

      Menu > Machine Info.
      Reset Menu

at the top of the screen (to know you are looking in the right place). Give those tips a shot and let me know if it helps.
